As a representative of a minimalist Art Déco direction, Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941) is considered one of the stylistic icons amongst furniture designers. Around 1935, he designed a series of exclusive “Cabinet” cupboards. A solitaire from this series was auctioned for an astonishing sum of € 3,681,000 at Sotheby’s in 2014.
In 2015, Hotel Adlon commissioned a modified replica of this piece of furniture for the vestibule of the Lorenz Adlon dining room as a bar cabinet.
It was our task to mirror the interior of the cabinet in a reduced, yet elegant form keeping with the overall design.
After presenting several designs, the design office chose an artfully antiqued clear glass reverse plated with beaten aluminium and a fine web of umbra and sepia tones.
